com. It helps develop strength, flexibility, stamina, neuromuscular coordination
and a variety of motor skills and of course adds style and grace to ones
personality like any form of dance would do. Earlier, this art form was only
used as a performance act, but today it has gained popularity as a dance and a
fitness workout.Recently, I was invited to judge an Aerial silk championship, at
first I was hesitant to give my nod for it because I was not sure what a Latin
and Ballroom like me would do as a jury for Aerial silk competition, but on
insistence of my dear friend actress Smilly Suri, I agreed for the same and I am
glad and thankful to Smilly for persuading me go say a yes for the same, because
it was an evening that has left some wonderful memories in my heart.
Speed is of
key importance. It is performed without a harness and one needs to rely on
his/her own strength and skill. Hence, when I begin to train in silk I had to
relearn everything. I always came first. In Mallakhamb we have to perform 20
elements in 1min 30 sec and hold positions for a few seconds. The variety of
moves, drops, wraps, twists and turns are practically endless and create an
ever-intriguing challenge. I played almost 10 district, state and national
championships and achieved numerous Gold,silver and bronze medals. And then, due
to personal reasons, I got an opportunity to visit USA, for a duration of 3
months.
Sandip Soparrkar is a well known Ballroom dancer and a Bollywood
choreographer who has been honoured with two National Achievement Award and one
National Excellence Award by the Govt of India.
Aerial Silk, also known as tissue
or fabric is one of the newest, yet most awe inspiring and versatile art
form.The championship was organised by the affable Aditi Deshpande. That got me
excited. Aditi has trained aerial enthusiasts from Germany, UK, United States of
America and Mauritius. Having learnt ‘Rope’ from the age of 5 under the guidance
of the respected guru, none other than her father Uday Vishwanath Deshpande
while taking inspiration from her mother’s artistic background, Aditi
passionately pursued her career in the field of Aerial Arts.She has been
teaching ‘Rope Mallakhamb’ for over 15 years and ‘Aerial Silk’ for 4 years at
Shri Samarth Vyayam Mandir, Dadar.
Nothing was challenging or exciting me.Rope
and silk being similar what is more difficult and challenging out of the
two?Yes, it is similar with respect to the skill set required, but very
different in terms of the sport. This super flexible artist is the founder of
Fly High Aerial Art, who is a trained gymnast and professional Mallakhamb

Aerial Silk instructor.However, after reaching my goal of receiving the
Chatrapati award, I needed something else to motivate and energize me. Since
then, there was no looking back. Mallakhamb further helped me to be the best in
all the other sports, to name a few, are running, high jump,long jump etc. And
since then my journey began to achieve it.

hearings in the long-standing Ayodhya dispute, which started following the
demolition of Babri Masjid that triggered massive riots in various parts of the
country resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people. Citing this, Hindu
zealots brought down the mosque on December 6, 1992.77-acre disputed site.A sect
of Muslims, under the banner of Shia Central Waqf Board of Uttar Pradesh, had
earlier approached the court offering a solution that a mosque could be built in
a Muslim- dominated area at a "reasonable distance" from the disputed site in
Ayodhya. The stakeholders in the case had moved the apex court after the
Allahabad High Court directed the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and the
Lord Ram Lalla to settle for a three-way division of the 2.
A three-judge bench
of the Allahabad High Hourt, in a 2:1 majority ruling, had said the land be
partitioned equally among three parties -- the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi

2010 judgement of the Allahabad High Court in four civil suits. The top court
had on August 11 asked the UP government to complete within 10 weeks the
translation of the evidence recorded for adjudication of the title dispute in
the high court..The first hearing is set a day before the 25th anniversary of
the demolition of medieval-era mosque. However, its intervention was opposed by
the All India Sunni Waqf Board which had claimed that judicial adjudication
between the two sects had already been done in 1946 by declaring the mosque as
one which belongs to the Sunnis. It had said it would not allow the matter to
take any shape other than the civil appeals and would adopt the same procedure
as was done by the high court. A battery of high profile lawyers including
senior advocates K Parasaran and C S Vaidyanathan and advocate Saurabh Shamsheri
will appear for Lord Ram Lalla, the deity, and Additional Solicitor General
Tushar Mehta will represent the Uttar Pradesh government. Many of the original
plantiffs and defendants in the matter including Mohd Hashim, who was the first
person to take the matter to the apex court, have died.

And for a lot of reasons, designer Anavila Misra, who has been making quite
the fashionable waves, befits the quotation. In 2004, she began working on a
craft cluster development project for NIFT in association with the Ministry of
Rural Development.
"While I was discovering this long trail of cloth of one
straight single length, with no zips or stitches, I thought to myself, what kind
of sari Medical

journey with the sari. And between 2007 and 2010, she worked on small projects
with weavers and artisans, creating products which could be showcased at
exhibitions. It (the sari) might look casual because of the nature of the yarn

into making the sari matches to that of any other expensive sari.
"Comfort was
the last word anyone associated with a sari, which is considered a mark of
virtuous femininity, and I wanted to break that mould to show the ease with
which it can be worn,†says Anavila.Linen is a fine yarn and it is
expensive.Her saris appear simple and demure with minimum embellishments and
restricted colour story but the price point of the garment is very
competitive.The designer is a post-graduate in Knitwear Design from NIFT Delhi,
and her first job was at Madura Garments where she worked as an assistant
designer for the brand Louis Phillipe, primarily focusing on men’s formal and
casual shirts as well as knitwear.
But the cost is legitimate.Leonardo da Vinci
said, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. How does a pure linen sari in
shy muted tones hold up to a high price point, we probe? "The first sari that I
did was for Rs 12,000. Brought up in Karnal, a small town in Haryana, and Patna,
the designer was into flower arrangements and wall decorations with natural
flowers and materials collected from gardens and wild forest areas near her
house as well as designing clothes for her dolls as a child. "Appreciation in
any form feels nice. I consider each one of my buyers as stars in their own
universe,†she says.â€. The cost of pure linen plus the weaver’s labour/hard work
along with the dying cost of the fabric all came out quite competitively when
compared to other saris. That’s a fact.â€
She adds, "Having said that, it’s
always up to the customer whether they want to wear the light and comfortable
linen or choose a banarasi.

(CITI) on Monday welcomed the GST Council&Disposable

knitting and embroidery to 5 per cent from 18 per cent decided earlier.
"We have
apprehensions that Indian market would get flooded with imports from China,
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, which would end up in huge job losses," Jain said.
Hence, industry would need some safeguard measures to ensure the Make in India
initiative does not wash away in the avalanche of imports (which have post GST
become 12 to 16 per cent cheaper).. This 5 per cent rate will be applicable for
job works in apparel, shawls and carpets."Earlier the additional duties, namely,
CVD & SAD were a protection against imports.In a statement, CITI Vice
Chairman Sanjay K Jain described it as a big breather to small job work
manufacturers in all segments of textile value chain which will allow the free
flow of business across the value chain.
However, Jain said the reduction of GST
rate for manmade fibre and synthetics from 18 to 12 per cent being postponed is
disappointing. All textile job works being manufacturing activities were
exempted from service tax in pre-GST regime.The GST Council, headed by Finance
Minister Arun Jaitley comprising representatives from all states, last week
decided to tax all job works in the textile sector at 5 per cent.He # urged to
the government and GST Council to accommodate the textile industry's demand of
12 per cent GST rate on MMF and synthetic yarn or refund of duty under inverted
duty incidence at fabric stage as prescribed in GST Act. He claimed that imports
are now cheaper than domestic products as the countervailing duty (CVD) and
special additional duty (SAD) on imports have become Integrated GST.He said the
5 per cent GST rate on job works would enable the industry to claim full input
credit and also avoid any inverted duty and strengthen the global
competitiveness of the textile sector apart from benefiting the domestic
consumers.

together to form a simple message of love by designer Manish Arora. We hope ‘All
We Need Is Love’ is able to strike a chord of love, peace and harmony with
everyone who sees it,†says Manish.Public art, is most often a reflection of
society or a projection of the artists’ emotions. Also, it is interesting to see
how an artist approaches a project and there is so much you can learn from a
single concept,†says fashion blogger Pallavi Singh. The installation was the
result of six months of ideating, 35 artisans and three months of execution.

looking as though we (the BJP government) is muzzling artistic freedom?†asks
